Grundgesetzes, Loi fondamentale allemande

The Basic Law was adopted in 1949 following the failure of the Weimar Republic which supported the rise of Nazism. This law defines the fundamental rights, the powers of the executive, legislative and judicial. In addition, it determines the division of powers between the federation and the states (Länder).
